Tesla, Inc., originally created by engineers Marc Tarpenning and Martin Eberhard in 2003, is an American multinational clean energy firm that manufactures electric vehicles (EVs), solar products, and battery energy storage. Tesla has its headquarters located in Austin, Texas. The mission of Tesla is to speed up the world’s transition to sustainable energy.
They launched its first car, the Roadster, a sports car with over 200 miles of range on a single fill-up, in 2008. The company then released the Model S sedan in 2012, the Model X SUV in 2015, and the Model Y crossover in 2020, Then released the Cybertruck pickup and the Tesla in 2023.
Tesla boasts a robust manufacturing line of Fremont Factory, California, Gigafactory Nevada, Gigafactory Shanghai in China, Gigafactory Berlin in Germany. The factories make cars, and energy storage products.
Tesla retailed 19.9% of 2023 battery electric passenger vehicle sales. Tesla manufactured 1.8 million units in 2023, which is 38% more than units made in 2022. Tesla manufactured six millionth of its units by March 2024.
Besides electric cars, Tesla produces energy products such as Powerwall for domestic energy storage and Megapack for utility energy storage. Tesla also has solar roof tiles and solar panels with integrated renewable generation and energy storage.
Tesla has been working on Dojo, a supercomputer that will evaluate massive amounts of video data to build its Full Self-Driving (FSD) capability. Dojo will enhance machine learning software for autonomous vehicles.
Tesla has over 100,000 workers globally as of March 2025 who all work for Tesla to make a vision regarding sustainable energy into reality.
